Governor General starts campaign to inspire Canadians to give back

logoFrontier Trails Camp2-1Canada’s Governor General David Johnston is launching ‘My Giving Moment’ –  a national campaign aimed at encouraging Canadians to give back to their community by donating and supporting their favourite Canadian charities and the wonderful people doing so much for others.

“This is an honourable and timely initiative,” said Andrea Koehle Jones, Founder and Executive Director of The Charitree Foundation – Canada’s environmental education charity for children. She says she’s always been proud to be a Canadian especially because Canadians have are among the greatest givers in the world. “ Any effort to encourage Canadians to do what they do best will only benefit Canada and the world.”

“There’s never been a better time to teach kids that they can make the world a better place simply by taking an interest in their environment and making greener choices. If children are going to make a lifelong commitment to protect the environment for themselves and future generations, they first need time to explore the wonders of nature,” said Koehle Jones. “One of the best ways to teach environmental education is to give kids a tree of their own to plant. It’s about learning to care for something, self-sufficiency, reforestation, trees as future food sources and so much more.”

Give something big. Give something small. Give time, talent or money. There are hundreds of great causes and ideas #mygivingmoment to inspire you. Happy giving.
