FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Vancouver, Canada – October 20, 2025
The ChariTree Foundation is proud to contribute to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity’s (CBD)forthcoming global report on collective progress in implementing the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) — the world’s plan to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030.
As part of this global effort, The ChariTree Foundation shared insights and data highlighting how environmental education for children directly supports multiple GBF Targets, including education and awareness (Target 16), ecosystem restoration (Target 2), and equitable access to nature (Target 12).
“Who is looking out for kids? Environmental education is the key to safeguarding children and youth from future impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss.”
— Andrea Koehle Jones, Founder and Executive Director, The ChariTree Foundation
🌿 Hands-On Environmental Learning for Children
The ChariTree Foundation’s submission emphasizes the power of hands-on, hope-filled learning experiences that connect children to nature. Through programs like Outdoor Classroom Grants, A Tree for Every Child, and beach clean-up parties, kids gain the tools and confidence to be part of the biodiversity solution.
These programs help children:
- Learn how to plant and care for trees
- Understand their vital role in restoring ecosystems
- Build resilience, empathy, and environmental leadership skills
- Develop lifelong habits of environmental stewardship
Since its founding, hundreds of thousands of children have planted trees through ChariTree-supported programs in Canada and internationally.
🌱 Featured Resources by Andrea Koehle Jones
As part of its contribution, The ChariTree Foundation highlighted several educational guides written by Executive Director Andrea Koehle Jones and published in EcoParent Magazine, which help educators and families make environmental learning accessible and fun:
- How to Host a Kids’ Beach Clean-up Party: Helping the Planet & Having Fun Doing It!
- How to Host a Kids’ Tree-Planting Party: Get Kids Outdoors & Care for Our Planet with More Sustainable Fun

These resources reflect ChariTree’s belief that climate action and biodiversity protection start with education — and that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and care for the planet.
