Response to Outdoor Classroom Grant Program Overwhelming as Funding Goes Out to Schools Nationwide
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — October 27, 2025
Kelowna, BC — Thousands of children across Canada are stepping outside to learn, thanks to The ChariTree Foundation’s Outdoor Classroom Grant Program. From Newfoundland and Labrador to British Columbia and the Yukon, schools are transforming traditional lessons into hands-on, nature-based experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, and care for the planet.
The response to this year’s program was overwhelming, with hundreds of applications received from schools and organizations eager to bring learning outdoors. Ultimately, 30 schools nationwide were selected to receive $5,000 grants from The ChariTree Foundation to help build new outdoor classrooms and children’s learning gardens.
These grants support schools, summer camps, and registered Canadian charities in creating vibrant outdoor spaces where young people can connect with nature, explore environmental sustainability, and thrive in an ever-changing world. Outdoor learning not only deepens students’ connection to the environment — it also helps improve air quality, reduce indoor crowding, and promote healthier, more active learning experiences for children.
“On behalf of our entire school community, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation from The ChariTree Foundation towards our outdoor classroom project,” said previous grant recipient Kelly Pevie, Principal, Jakeman All Grade School, Newfoundland and Labrador. “Your support will allow us to enhance our outdoor learning space, where students can engage with nature, learn about sustainability, and grow their connection to the environment. This donation will have a lasting impact on the education and well-being of our students.”
Funding for the successful applicants will be sent on October 29, 2025, and recipients are asked to submit acknowledgment letters by November 12, 2025, confirming receipt of their $5,000 grant.
“Outdoor classrooms are more than just learning spaces — they’re places where children can build resilience, hope, and environmental awareness.” — Andrea Koehle Jones, Executive Director of The ChariTree Foundation.
